We work with managing agents, resident directors, landlords and freeholders. Highgate's Georgian conversions, Victorian houses and larger blocks call for different access plans, particularly where historic fabric is involved. We establish who can authorise the work before disturbing shared feeds, and keep residents informed through your nominated contact.
Protect the building before choosing a new roof position
Around Highgate Village, an apparently convenient chimney may belong to another part of a converted property. We check ownership, accessible masonry and the proposed cable route before recommending a mounting. Listed status or conservation controls may affect the work; we identify consent questions for management to resolve rather than assuming a replacement is automatically exempt.
Keeping a sound shared aerial can avoid unnecessary fixtures and visible downleads. If renewal is justified, we compare discreet positions with actual reception measurements. We do not sacrifice a usable signal merely to hide equipment, or drill historic stonework without an agreed method. Roof access and any specialist access provision form part of the proposal.
N6 slopes make roof measurements essential
The hilltop and streets descending towards Waterlow Park do not present identical reception conditions. Trees, neighbouring roofs and the slope can change what reaches the aerial. We assess Crystal Palace reception at the building instead of treating Highgate's elevation as proof that every communal feed must be strong.
Where an alternative transmitter is considered, we explain the channel implications. The Alexandra Palace relay does not offer the same full selection as Crystal Palace. We measure signal quality as well as strength and consider distribution losses before specifying amplification. More gain cannot reconstruct a broadcast already damaged by poor reception at the aerial.
Turn residents' reports into a fault map
Ask which flats are affected, whether terrestrial television or satellite has failed, and whether the trouble is constant. A whole-block outage prompts different checks from one missing channel group on a single landing. Please leave televisions tuned while the shared fault is investigated; repeated scans can erase services that return once reception is restored.
We compare the incoming signal, headend outputs and accessible distribution points, then test selected sockets. Power supplies, splitters, connectors and water-damaged cable are checked alongside the aerial itself. This isolates the failed stage and helps us retain serviceable equipment, including installations originally fitted by another contractor.
Understand what the existing IRS can deliver
An integrated reception system can combine television, radio and satellite feeds, but an outlet marked SAT does not establish receiver compatibility. We identify the headend, multiswitch arrangement and any fibre sections before promising support for a particular box. Residents should check with management before buying equipment on the strength of a socket label.
If Sky Q or another receiver needs a different distribution arrangement, we assess the relevant dSCR requirements and available capacity. Our scope distinguishes changes to shared equipment from work inside flats. That avoids a building-wide upgrade being approved while the final connections needed by residents remain unaccounted for.
Plan access through occupied period conversions
A cable serving the ground floor may pass through an upper flat's loft rather than a communal riser. We establish those dependencies during the survey. Management can then arrange the necessary appointments together, rather than discovering halfway through a repair that the next test point is behind a locked private door.
We agree protection for stair finishes, safe working areas and the handling of any compartment penetrations. Fire-stopping requirements must be settled with the building's responsible team; television cabling is not a reason to leave an opening unsealed. Near Highgate Cemetery or busy village approaches, tell us about loading restrictions and where access equipment can stand.
Give directors evidence they can make decisions on
Our survey findings identify accessible equipment, readings and the location of defects, supported by photographs where relevant. We explain signal level, modulation error ratio and bit error rate in terms of reception reliability. Any untested flats or inaccessible roof areas are stated, not quietly treated as satisfactory.
We separate the immediate repair from optional improvements and longer-term renewal. You receive a fixed written quote defining the agreed work and testing scope. Where further investigation is necessary, we explain why and obtain authorisation before extending the job. This gives resident directors a clear basis for discussing expenditure without having to interpret technical shorthand.
Leave a system that can be maintained
After repairs or installation, we test the agreed outlets and record what was changed. Useful labels on feeds and distribution equipment make later investigations less disruptive. We explain any outstanding access needs, receiver settings or limitations, so completion does not simply mean a picture appeared on one television.
For planned maintenance, we agree which components are covered, the inspection frequency and callout arrangements. Checks can include exposed connectors, mount condition, ventilation and comparison with earlier readings. A maintenance agreement is not a guarantee against every outage; its terms should make responsibility for parts, additional labour and attendance clear.
Speak to us with the building details
Call free on 0800 206 2385 or send the address and affected flat numbers to WhatsApp 07595 292534. We answer Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm, with on-site work continuing until sunset. Same-day help is possible where availability and safe access allow; we confirm arrangements rather than promise an unsuitable roof visit.
We are Finchley Aerials and Satellites of Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU, bringing 25 years' experience to shared reception work. Advice and planned site surveys are free. An instructed diagnostic attendance is discussed separately, and we provide a clear price before work starts.
