We work on the Victorian terraces and converted homes around the Clock Tower, towards Hornsey and beside Parkland Walk. Our repair service covers aerial alignment, damaged wiring, failed powered components and unreliable outlets. We make the distinction between a reception limitation and a repairable equipment fault clear before recommending changes.
A bowl-shaped neighbourhood needs property-level testing
Two houses along a slope may receive quite different signals. The height of a roof, nearby structures and the direction of the broadcast path all matter. We measure the usable quality at your property, comparing positions when necessary instead of assuming every Crouch End roof needs the same arrangement.
A higher mounting can help in some circumstances, but it also places greater demands on the pole and support. We check whether the gain in reception justifies the change. A large aerial on an inadequate bracket is not a sensible repair, even if it briefly produces an acceptable picture.
Compare transmitter options without losing sight of channels
We normally assess the relevant Crystal Palace reception and consider the Alexandra Palace relay where appropriate. The nearest transmitter is not automatically the best choice. The available signal at the building, the aerial's suitability and the services you want all influence the decision.
Relay coverage can involve a reduced channel selection. We explain that before proposing a change of direction, rather than restoring a few stations and leaving you to discover the missing ones. Alignment is checked with measurements across the available groups, not settled by getting one familiar programme onto the screen.
Converted terraces: separate each flat's cable branch
In a converted house, the aerial might be shared even when there is no formal equipment cupboard. We establish the arrangement before disconnecting anything. Your neighbour's working reception is useful evidence, but it does not prove every part of the shared system is healthy.
A typical job here: an upstairs flat has stable reception while the ground-floor television breaks up. We compare the outputs feeding each dwelling and follow the affected branch through accessible joins. With the necessary permission, we repair the identified connection rather than disrupting another resident's feed or replacing a serviceable aerial.
Wind-related faults deserve a mechanical inspection
If the screen freezes when gusts pass, tell us whether the aerial visibly moves from a safe ground-level viewpoint. Do not climb up to check it. We inspect accessible mast fixings, brackets and cable support, with suitable roof access and weather conditions established first.
A loose lashing can change alignment, while a cable flexing at a connector can interrupt an otherwise good signal. We distinguish those faults before tightening or replacing parts. Deteriorated chimney masonry needs attention from the appropriate building trade; we will not disguise that risk with new aerial fittings.
Old coax and boosters can hide the real limitation
Period homes often retain cable installed before later room changes. We inspect the condition and screening, then compare readings before and after splitters or amplifiers. If the signal arrives cleanly but becomes unreliable indoors, improving the roof aerial may do nothing for the actual fault.
We check amplifier supplies and avoid excessive gain. For interference concerns, we assess whether mobile signals are entering the system and whether filtering is appropriate. A filter is selected for a demonstrated need; it cannot compensate for water inside a cable or restore data that was never received cleanly.

Protect the building while restoring the feed
We agree any replacement cable route before drilling. On a terrace, a neat front elevation and a practical rear route may lead to different options. We discuss the visible result as well as the signal, and secure outdoor wiring rather than leaving it hanging across brickwork.
Tell us about listed status, conservation restrictions, landlord consent or shared access that might affect the work. We do not assume every N8 property has the same controls. Where permission is required, obtain it before alterations. Access through a neighbour's garden or flat must also be agreed, not taken for granted.
Finish with checks at the television you watch
We repeat the relevant signal tests after repair and check viewing at the agreed outlets. Retuning comes after the feed is restored, when needed. We explain what we found and provide a fixed written quote before carrying out the repair, so the scope and price are not left vague.
