Our base is on Britannia Road in N12. We cover the inter-war semis, converted houses and newer apartments around Tally Ho Corner, as well as premises near artsdepot and Woodside Park. Equipment fitted by another company is welcome: we assess its condition and explain the available repair options.
When live pictures hide a recording problem
A failed drive, incorrect schedule or wrong clock can leave you with convincing live video and nothing useful to retrieve. We inspect recorder warnings and storage health, check the selected recording mode and try playback. We ask about footage you want preserved before making changes that could overwrite or erase it.
Beeping deserves investigation rather than simply silencing the buzzer. It may report a disk problem, lost channel or another event. We explain the warning in context and agree any chargeable diagnostic work. Replacing the cameras will not fix a recorder that is unable to save their pictures.

Survey the doorway, not just the street scene
Near Tally Ho Corner, a shop camera may capture a steady stream of pavement movement while missing the face of somebody entering. We look at the doorway, till approach and any stock or delivery access separately. Each view should answer a practical question without needlessly watching surrounding public space.
At a Woodside Park semi, the important gap may be beside the house rather than across the front garden. Our free survey follows those access routes and checks obstructions, mounting surfaces and available light. You receive a proposed layout and a fixed written quote, not pressure to choose a package immediately.

Rescue useful parts of an older installation
One dead camera does not prove that every cable and recorder needs replacing. We examine power supplies, connections and the affected video path, using compatible test equipment where appropriate. Outside junctions are checked for moisture, and we look for damage where cables pass through walls or move in the wind.
For coaxial systems, we identify the camera standard and recorder support before ordering replacements. With network cameras, we also check the switch ports and power arrangements. If a repair would leave an unreliable or unsupported system, we explain why and compare the alternatives openly rather than hiding limitations behind a new box.
Put the wiring and recorder somewhere sensible
Conversions can have several doorbells, separate supplies and cable runs left by previous occupants. We identify what belongs to your CCTV before altering anything. For apartment schemes, we agree access and permissions with the responsible person; a convenient communal wall is not automatically yours to drill into.
New wired cameras need supported outdoor cable, protected terminations and sealed entry points. We agree routes around extensions and finished rooms before work begins. The recorder requires ventilation, suitable power and maintenance access. Keeping it in a secure position also matters: an accessible hallway shelf may be convenient but offers little protection from removal.
Get more from night images and motion alerts
Bright shopfronts and dark side alleys create very different exposures. We choose the view and settings for the entrance itself, considering headlights and reflected light. Colour night recording needs adequate illumination. Infrared can help with a darker scene, but close walls, dirty covers and cobwebs can spoil its image.
We also shape motion zones around useful activity. If every bus or passer-by triggers a notification, the alert becomes easy to ignore. Settings can reduce irrelevant events, although we explain their limits and avoid guaranteeing detection. Camera placement does much of the work before any app slider is adjusted.
Make phone access yours, not the previous owner's
We check account ownership and authorised users when setting up remote viewing. Equipment inherited with a home or business may require a supported recovery process; access cannot always be transferred without the existing account holder. We explain that before promising a working app and never ask you to send passwords over WhatsApp.
At handover we test live images and playback over mobile data, then demonstrate exporting an event. We discuss storage duration in relation to your settings and capacity. If broadband stops, correctly configured local recording may continue while power is available, but remote viewing and some notifications will be interrupted.
Set limits for shared and commercial views
We ask what each camera is for and limit the scene accordingly. Privacy masks can exclude neighbouring windows where the equipment supports them. Recording beyond a domestic boundary can bring data protection responsibilities; a business also needs clear arrangements for staff, visitors and requests for images.
We discuss signs, retention and restricted access without pretending our technical recommendations replace legal advice. For shared entrances, agree who authorises installation and controls footage before work. Audio generally remains disabled unless there is a considered reason for it. A wider view is not necessarily a more appropriate or more useful one.
