Signal strength here is generally good, so missing channels usually point to wiring, distribution or receiver settings. We tune sets, check HD capability and trace faults, and we tell you early when a repair needs your managing agent rather than another visit from us.
Start inside the flat, not on the roof
Before anyone requests building access, we check the things you control: the flylead, the wall plate, the television's tuner and its region setting. A loose connector behind a unit causes a surprising number of broken pictures. These checks cost you little and narrow the problem quickly.
We then measure signal quality at the socket across all the broadcast groups. Good readings direct our attention towards the receiver, its settings and the short connecting lead rather than the roof. Poor readings across the whole building point towards shared equipment, and that is when we talk to the freeholder or agent.
White stucco villas divided into many homes
A large villa near Belsize Village may hold five or six flats, each with a socket leading to a single roof aerial. Over the decades, extra splitters and amplifiers get added by different residents. We identify which parts serve your flat and which serve everyone.
A typical job here: the top-floor flat loses several channels while the ground floor is fine. The cause may be an amplifier input, a failed splitter port or a damaged run through the stairwell. We test each stage and report where the weak point sits.
Mansion blocks near Swiss Cottage
Mansion flats often use an older shared system built for fewer channels. An HD service may be missing because the equipment cannot pass it, not because your television is faulty. We establish what the distribution handles before suggesting you replace anything of your own.
If the building needs an upgrade, we can explain what that would involve for the managing agent. We will not alter communal equipment without authority, and we do not leave one flat's reception worse to help another.
Is your television capable of HD Freeview?
An older flat-screen may display HD from a games console but lack the tuner needed for Freeview HD. We check the model number and test the HD channels directly. If the set cannot decode them, a compatible receiver can be cheaper than a new screen.
Newer televisions occasionally pick the wrong region or keep an old channel list after a house move. We set the area correctly, rescan once the signal is sound, and check the guide for duplicate or empty entries.
Freeview Play, smart apps and flat Wi-Fi
Thick period walls can weaken Wi-Fi between the router and a living-room television. When catch-up apps stutter but live channels are fine, the aerial is not at fault. We check the connection at the set, update software and suggest wired or repositioned options.
You enter your own passwords on the television. Broadcaster app availability varies by model and age, so we say plainly if a particular service is not supported on your device.
Recorders and listed or conservation-area restrictions
Many streets near Primrose Hill and Belsize Village fall within conservation areas, and some buildings are listed. That limits what can be fixed to a facade or roof. We focus on solutions that use existing aerial points and internal cabling wherever possible.
On the recorder side, we tune the unit, test a recording and show you how the guide and series links behave. If it only has a single tuner, we explain what that means when two programmes clash.
Access, parking and visit planning
Tell us about entry phones, porters and parking rules when you call. Controlled-parking streets and shared entrances make visit planning matter. If roof access is needed, we ask you to arrange it with the building manager in advance.
We bring a meter and common cable and connectors, so many fixes are completed in one visit. If a part must be ordered or building approval is required, we explain next steps before leaving.
