The open frontage of a house off Golders Green Road and a sheltered roof towards the Hampstead Heath Extension present different conditions. We consider the building, cable route and receiver together. Our aim is a dependable setup with an explanation you can use, not a pile of replacement parts bought on speculation.
Tree cover is a clue, not a diagnosis
Near the Heath Extension, mature planting and roof positions can influence terrestrial reception. We compare the available signal where practical and look for a position with useful quality, not simply the highest strength reading. Aerial height, direction and surroundings all matter, so copying the neighbour's installation is not a reliable specification.
We also check for causes that have nothing to do with trees: deteriorated joints, a damaged aerial or an amplifier operating outside a sensible range. If roof access is necessary, we discuss how it can be done safely. We never ask you to climb up or move equipment to help diagnose the problem.
Use the pattern of lost channels
Write down a few channel names that fail and a few that remain watchable. Freeview packages multiple services into each broadcast multiplex. That means several apparently unrelated programmes can disappear together when one frequency group becomes unreliable. We test those groups individually at your television point.
We check reported transmitter conditions as part of the investigation. Crystal Palace supplies much of this area, but the actual feed and stored tuning need verification. If reception is absent during engineering, a rescan may erase channels without restoring anything. We recommend a retune when there is a working signal and a reason to rebuild the list.
A neat room can conceal a poor connection
Arts & Crafts houses may have television points added through several refurbishments. We follow the working route rather than trusting an unlabelled splitter in the loft. In the viewing room, we inspect the short lead, socket and any recorder connection before recommending changes to external equipment.
A cable pinched by a cabinet can affect reception even when its plug appears secure. We measure before and after suspect parts, and retain serviceable wiring where it is suitable. Any replacement route is agreed with you, including where the cable enters the house and how it reaches the television without crossing a doorway.
Choose the right remedy for missing HD
We establish whether your receiver includes DVB-T2 before investigating absent Freeview HD broadcasts. A high-resolution screen alone does not supply that capability. If the tuner is unsuitable, we explain compatible receiver options instead of suggesting that a different aerial will unlock channels the television cannot decode.
On supported equipment, we compare HD multiplex quality with the other broadcasts and check for wrong-region tuning. We also consider overload and interference when readings warrant it. Suitable filtering can help a proven mobile-signal problem, but it cannot repair a broken coax connection or create a service the transmitter does not carry.

Treat mansion-flat reception as a shared system
In mansion flats, we distinguish your private equipment from the communal aerial distribution. Ask another resident whether they see the same fault, and tell us whether every television in your flat is affected. Those details help decide whether the first check belongs at a room outlet or with building management.
We need authorisation before altering shared amplifiers, splitters or roof equipment. Where the individual feed tests correctly, the next step may instead be receiver setup. We explain what the measurements show and what access would be required for further investigation, without treating an entire building upgrade as inevitable.
When the aerial works but catch-up does not
Freeview Play's supported on-demand functions use your broadband, while conventional live Freeview arrives through the aerial. We check network settings, signal at the television and supported software when apps fail. A new router can leave the set trying to connect with yesterday's network details even though live programmes remain perfect.
We show you the distinction between the live guide and connected content, then test a supported app where available. Broadcaster accounts stay under your control: you enter passwords rather than sending them to us. We cannot guarantee continued support for an app that its provider has withdrawn from an older device.

Agree the work and leave with usable controls
We tune the agreed equipment, check a spread of available services and demonstrate the controls you actually need. If a recorder is included, we explain recording conflicts and playback. For extra rooms, we plan properly measured distribution rather than adding splitters until the picture starts to fail.
