Across NW11, Arts & Crafts houses, inter-war semis and mansion flats offer different choices. We consider the sky above the building, the strength of the fixing surface and the route to your router. We explain the compromises openly, including when the most discreet position would leave too much obstruction.
Trees near the Heath Extension change the decision
Close to Hampstead Heath Extension or Golders Hill Park, the nearest branches are only part of the picture. More distant canopies can intrude into the terminal's required field of view too. We assess candidate positions with the Starlink obstruction checker instead of choosing whichever wall gives the shortest ladder climb.
Seasonal growth matters. A winter assessment should not ignore the space that leaves occupy in summer, and we cannot assume pruning will be permitted. Where trees cannot sensibly be cleared, we compare other mounting locations and tell you about remaining limitations before agreeing to install equipment there.
A quiet-looking frontage does not mean a simple roof
Arts & Crafts details need care when selecting fixings and visible cable runs. We inspect masonry and agree where equipment will sit in relation to eaves, windows and decorative work. A hidden rear position is worth investigating, but it must still provide adequate sky visibility and safe access for fitting and future maintenance.
We flag any planning or listed-building checks relevant to the property rather than assuming every NW11 house has the same restrictions. If consent is needed, it comes before drilling. We can explain the proposed physical work so that you have something clear to discuss with the relevant owner or authority.
Choose support for the actual Starlink generation
The model label and a photograph of the terminal help us specify compatible fittings. Starlink generations differ, so we check the intended mount, cable and router arrangement as a set. We do not order a generic pole adapter and hope that it suits whatever equipment arrives on installation day.
For an exposed position, the bracket and supporting structure must cope with wind loading and leverage. We inspect any existing chimney hardware before proposing reuse. If longer stand-off is needed to clear an overhang, we account for the increased forces rather than extending a lightweight bracket beyond its intended use.
Plan the indoor destination from the beginning
We ask where people work, stream and make calls, not just where an outside cable can most easily enter. In an inter-war semi, a front-room entry may leave the kitchen extension poorly served. We compare an appropriate router position with the practical limits of the terminal cable and its connector requirements.
A supported outside run, protected edges and a properly sealed entry are part of the installation. We show you the intended visible route and avoid tight bends or trapped connectors. The Starlink lead cannot be substituted with old satellite coax, and unsuitable joins should not be buried out of sight to disguise a length problem.
Mansion flats need a workable shared-access agreement
A top-floor address does not establish ownership of the roof. For mansion flats, we establish who controls the outside wall, roof hatch and cable route. We ask you to secure the appropriate approval and arrange access through the managing agent before a fitting date that depends on those areas.
Communal landings are not a convenient place to leave loose wiring. Any route must respect the building's fire precautions and agreed access arrangements. We also consider how the equipment would be reached again. If the only proposal requires unauthorised alterations, we stop and review it rather than leaving the responsibility unresolved.
Find out which connection is actually failing
When an existing setup drops out, we separate terminal status from room-by-room Wi-Fi behaviour. An obstruction alert points us towards the outdoor view. A laptop failing only at the back of the house suggests another investigation. Moving the terminal higher is not a universal remedy for every slow connection.
We can discuss compatible mesh or Ethernet options where the indoor network needs attention. That may involve an adapter depending on your hardware. We agree the extra work separately and check practical placement: a wireless node still needs a useful connection back to the network, not just a socket in the dead spot.

Leave with an understandable system, not just a green light
We check that the terminal is secure, inspect cable supports and confirm internet access through your account. We demonstrate the app's useful status information and explain the obstruction report. Some information develops over time, so we describe what to monitor after we leave rather than presenting an early result as conclusive.
We also test the indoor connection within the scope you approved. Download rates are influenced by your service plan, demand and conditions; our installation quote does not promise a fixed speed. You keep the account and subscription in your name, with no need to send passwords through WhatsApp when arranging the visit.
Book around the access your property allows
For houses off Golders Green Road, tell us about parking, narrow side access or locked rear gates when enquiring. Photographs taken safely from ground level help us prepare. Include the Starlink model and any mount already purchased, so our proposed visit matches the equipment and the building.
Our free advice line is 0800 206 2385; WhatsApp is 07595 292534. We answer Mon-Sat 8am-7pm and work on site up to sunset, subject to safety. Finchley Aerials and Satellites is based at Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU, with 25 years' experience. Same-day help is offered where possible, with a clear price agreed before work starts.
