Around The Broadway and the mansion flats beyond it, the useful question is not simply where a dish will fit. We establish where it can receive reliably, who can approve the work and how its cables reach your receiver. You see the proposed arrangement before we make any holes.
High ground does not remove the need for a satellite survey
Muswell Hill's elevation can help with open views, but satellite reception still depends on an unobstructed path to the right orbital position. For the usual UK Sky and Freesat services, we assess the direction towards 28.2 degrees east. Nearby buildings and tree canopies matter more than the view from the pavement.
Near Highgate Wood, a rear wall may look discreet yet face straight into foliage. We check from the intended mounting height rather than guessing from the garden. A lower side position can sometimes be more useful than a chimney, provided it clears the obstruction and offers a secure fixing surface.

Agree a position that respects the building
Many local Edwardian terraces and mansion flats lie within the Muswell Hill conservation area. We discuss less prominent locations and flag the need to check planning restrictions before committing to a visible dish. Listed status, lease conditions and conservation controls are separate matters; a neighbour's existing installation does not establish permission for yours.
We can describe the proposed mounting and cable route so you can seek the necessary approval. A concealed position must still receive the signal: placing a dish behind solid masonry is not a workable compromise. We also consider whether future maintenance would require access through someone else's home or garden.

Choose the receiving equipment around your box
Please tell us the receiver model, not just the name on its remote. Older Sky boxes, Sky Q and different generations of Freesat equipment do not all use the same dish connections. We identify the required LNB, the receiving head on the dish arm, and the number of suitable feeds.
If you are changing providers, we assess whether the existing dish and cables can remain. Keeping serviceable parts can avoid unnecessary disturbance, but a plug fitting the socket does not prove compatibility. We work independently of Sky; account changes, subscription activation and provider-controlled features remain with your television provider.
A cable route planned before the ladder goes up
Terraced layouts around The Broadway can leave limited access between the dish and a front reception room. We inspect existing service routes and agree any visible run with you. Original brickwork, window surrounds and decorative details deserve more thought than a loose cable dropped down the nearest convenient elevation.
For suitable new runs we use screened WF100 coax, secure it at sensible intervals and protect exposed terminations. We seal the wall entry against weather and avoid crushing cable beneath window frames. Existing coax gets tested before reuse, especially where an old run disappears behind fitted furniture or passes through a roof space.
When a working dish starts losing channels
We investigate the bracket, alignment, LNB and cable rather than assuming the whole installation has expired. A picture that breaks up in wind can point to movement; trouble after rain can indicate an exposed connection. Those are starting clues, not a diagnosis made over the telephone.
We inspect the supporting masonry and fixings before adjusting alignment. Tightening a dish onto a failing bracket only hides the underlying problem. Where roofing or scaffolding has interrupted the satellite path, we explain whether a temporary obstruction needs removing or a properly planned relocation makes more sense.

Mansion flats: establish what belongs to the building
A socket inside your flat may connect to communal equipment rather than an individual dish. We ask about the managing agent, shared cupboards and roof access before arranging changes. If several residents have the same problem, that information helps distinguish a building-wide fault from a connection within your own rooms.
We need authorisation to alter shared distribution. Sky Q compatibility must be assessed against that distribution system, not just the receiver beside the television. We explain the boundary between private work and communal work so an upgrade for one household does not interrupt reception elsewhere in the block.
Measured alignment and an indoor handover
We adjust the dish direction, elevation and LNB rotation using reception measurements, then test at the receiver end. Cable losses and faulty connectors can be missed if testing stops outdoors. We check more than a single convenient channel and demonstrate the viewing and recording functions supported by your equipment.
We also explain any limits caused by the site. Very severe weather can affect satellite reception even with a sound installation. Our aim is to remove avoidable weaknesses, including marginal alignment, unstable fixings and damaged cable, rather than claim that any dish can ignore every storm.

Send us the postcode and a view from ground level
Call 0800 206 2385 free or message 07595 292534 on WhatsApp. A receiver label and a safely taken photograph of the dish help us prepare. Please mention shared access, parking restrictions and planned building work. We give free advice and provide a fixed written quote for the agreed installation.
We are Finchley Aerials and Satellites, on Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU, with 25 years' experience. Our hours are Mon-Sat, 8am-7pm; on-site work continues until sunset when conditions allow. Same-day service is possible when availability and safe access permit, with a clear price before work starts.
