We are Finchley Aerials and Satellites. Our fault-finding work covers missing channels, intermittent breakup and satellite reception failures in Edwardian houses, conversions and mansion flats. We explain what the tests establish, what remains uncertain and which repair deserves your money. Useful equipment stays in place wherever it can.
High ground can conceal an overloaded system
Around The Broadway, roof height and surrounding buildings change the signal reaching each property. We measure the available broadcast at an accessible incoming point, then compare it with the affected outlet. An amplifier fitted for an older arrangement may now deliver excessive level without improving the underlying quality.
Our meter checks level, modulation error ratio and bit error rate. Those readings help distinguish a weak feed from corrupted reception. Where overload is suspected, we compare a controlled change in gain or attenuation with the original result. We do not diagnose it simply because the television strength bar looks full.

Which transmitter is the set actually using?
Alexandra Palace is a prominent local landmark, but proximity alone does not identify the best television source for your address. We check the frequencies being received and assess Crystal Palace reception at the installation. The Alexandra Palace relay can be an alternative in suitable circumstances, with a more limited multiplex choice.
If channels vanished after a retune, we examine the stored services as well as the aerial feed. A receiver can store an unwanted alternative where more than one source is available. We first establish a sound signal, then tune appropriately and check the channels you actually watch, including available HD services.
Follow the wiring through an Edwardian conversion
A converted house may contain several generations of coaxial cable. An upstairs socket can depend on a splitter hidden behind furniture downstairs, while an abandoned extension remains connected. We ask which rooms belong to your installation and establish the cable layout before disconnecting anything that could serve another flat.
A typical job here: the front room works while a rear bedroom breaks up. We compare both branches, test the bedroom flylead separately and inspect its termination. If quality falls only along that branch, the evidence points away from a wholesale roof replacement. We explain any concealed length that cannot be inspected.

Wind and rain are clues, not a diagnosis
For exposed terraces near Highgate Wood, we ask whether breakup follows gusts, rainfall or neither. Movement at an inadequately supported cable and moisture entering an outside joint can produce different patterns. We inspect what is safely accessible and agree any roof access required before promising tests at the aerial itself.
Please keep a brief record of channel, time and weather if reception comes and goes. Photographs of the screen are useful, but nobody should climb out to inspect a mast. If the symptom does not occur during our visit, we report the measured margin and visible defects without claiming to have reproduced it.

Separate interference from ordinary cable damage
We examine the spectrum when mobile interference is a possibility. A filter belongs where it protects the affected equipment, and its benefit should be measurable. Fitting one behind the television will not undo distortion already introduced by an overloaded amplifier further upstream. We check the installation before choosing a position.
Other disturbances originate inside the home. A poor flylead, damaged screening or a failing plug-in supply can upset reception without a mobile mast being responsible. With your help, we compare readings while accessible appliances are operated normally. We never ask you to expose mains wiring or open powered equipment.

Mansion flats need permission as well as readings
Where a communal system supplies a mansion block, we start by identifying the boundary between the flat's wiring and the building feed. Neighbouring flats experiencing the same missing channels provide a useful clue, although we still need measurements. Access to a locked distribution cupboard must be arranged with whoever manages it.
Many Muswell Hill properties lie within a conservation area. If diagnosis leads to an external alteration, we discuss positioning and any permissions to check before proceeding. We do not treat a fault-finding appointment as authority to drill a shared facade, change a roof installation or interrupt other residents' television services.

Satellite symptoms need their own test path
A satellite warning is not an instruction to retune the terrestrial channels. We identify the receiver and distribution type, then check the relevant dish feed, connections and supply arrangements. Where one input works and another fails, comparison can help locate a cable or output fault without moving the dish unnecessarily.
After an approved repair we repeat the relevant checks and demonstrate reception. If access prevents a complete diagnosis, we state the limit and quote the next stage. You receive a clear price before work starts, with no assumption that agreeing to investigation also authorises every possible replacement.
Arrange a useful visit, not a speculative replacement
Call free on 0800 206 2385 or send your postcode and symptoms by WhatsApp to 07595 292534. We answer Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm; on-site appointments run until sunset. Same-day attendance is possible when our schedule and safe access allow. Mention locked cupboards or caretaker arrangements when booking.
Our base is Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU, and we bring 25 years' experience to the investigation. Free advice can help you prepare before a visit. We agree the diagnostic scope, explain the findings in everyday language and provide a fixed written quote for any further repair you choose.
