We install Starlink across NW1, working around Georgian terraces, canal-side apartments and large residential blocks. We test the sky first, agree roof access properly and fit with minimal visual impact. You get a fixed written quote, and a clear price before work starts.
A crowded skyline is the main enemy
Close to central London, the tall block opposite or a neighbouring mansard roof can take a big bite out of the sky. We run the Starlink app's obstruction check at the roof, terrace or balcony position you can actually use, then compare alternatives instead of trusting a map.
Camden's density means a position that looks open at eye level may be hemmed in at the roofline, or the reverse. We normally need a safe, supervised look from the intended spot. If no reachable position gives a decent view, we say so before you spend money on fixings.
Georgian terraces and what a roof can carry
Georgian terraces tend to have parapets, shallow roofs, party walls and often some form of protection. A mount has to avoid damaging lead flashings, brickwork or slate and should not look out of character from the street. We choose a position set back from the front wherever we can.
Many of these buildings sit in conservation areas, and listed ones need special care. We flag consent issues early and ask you to obtain approvals first. A simple terminal can still count as an external alteration, so please do not assume the rules do not apply.
Canal-side flats and balcony restrictions
Apartments by Regent's Canal often have glazed balconies, shared terraces and strict management rules. A balcony can look like the obvious spot, but the overhang above it may cut the view in half. We check the sky from the actual rail height before committing.
Drilling into balcony structures, glass or waterproofing is rarely allowed without approval. If clamping is the only acceptable method, we choose a clamp rated for the kit and the exposure, and we explain the limits plainly. Wind also matters beside open water.
Large blocks mean shared roofs and managed access
In a big residential block, the roof belongs to the freeholder or a management company, and access may be controlled by keyholders, permits or contractors' rules. Before we quote, we want to know who authorises work and what documents they require.
Some blocks have communal TV systems and rooftop plant. Our scope is only the private Starlink terminal and its cabling, not the shared aerial. We ask where a cable can go without affecting fire stopping, risers or neighbours, and we avoid compromising communal areas.
Cable entry that respects old buildings
A drill hole through a Georgian wall is a permanent decision. We plan it with the router position, existing penetrations and visible routes in mind. Where possible, we reuse a sound existing entry only after confirming it can take Starlink's connector and bending needs.
Outside, we support the cable in neat, sensible runs and arrange a drip loop before entry. Old TV coax is not a substitute for the Starlink lead. In rented flats, we discuss reinstatement and whether landlord approval is needed for a new wall penetration.
Wi-Fi in a tall, narrow house
Camden terraces run over several floors with the router often at the bottom. Dropping a signal through that many floors is tough, and stairs add an echo of dead spots. We think about router position early and sometimes recommend a wired run between floors.
Mesh equipment may help, though each unit needs a proper link back. For a business or home office, we can discuss a sensible layout. The quote will list any such extras separately so you can choose what you need.
A typical job here, step by step
A typical job here: a rented upper-floor flat in a terrace, with agreed landlord consent and a rear flat roof. We scan the sky, compare two positions, choose a low-profile mount and route a sealed cable into the back room. The street elevation stays untouched.
We connect through your account, review the app's status and explain what we fitted. Starlink performance depends on conditions, your plan and network demand, so we don't sell on a guaranteed speed.
