Book a free site survey before deciding on replacement equipment. We inspect what you have, discuss what you need to see and quote for the agreed work. Systems supplied by other installers are not excluded.
Make the entrance the subject
Around Camden Market, a camera can spend its day reacting to passers-by while producing poor detail at the actual door. We separate the overview from the recognition task. Lens choice, position and the distance to a visitor matter more than a specification chosen without seeing the premises. We demonstrate where the useful view begins and ends.
Delivery doors deserve the same consideration as customer entrances. We ask when those doors open, what can obscure them and whether staff need a view from inside. The plan follows legitimate security purposes, not a desire to record every corner of the workplace.
Repairing a system nobody wants to own
A former tenant's recorder may still be useful even if its login and documentation have disappeared. We identify the manufacturer, establish ownership and look at supported access recovery. We cannot bypass an account simply because the equipment is on site. Where authorisation is in place, we assess power, channels, cable condition and stored footage.
We distinguish an unsupported app from a defective camera. If local recording continues, the repair may concern networking or remote access rather than image capture. You receive an explanation of what can stay, what needs changing and any limitations on connecting old and new hardware.
The free Camden assessment
We visit the premises to examine sightlines, existing connections and practical installation routes. A canal-side apartment has different access arrangements from a terrace with a private rear door. We also look for a suitable recorder position: protected from casual interference, ventilated and accessible to the person responsible for footage.
Your survey ends in a fixed written quote for the proposed scope, not an obligation to install. If a repair needs detailed paid fault tracing, we explain that separately and obtain approval. We would rather define that boundary early than leave you wondering whether a quotation visit has become chargeable work.
Backlight, reflections and late closing
Glass shopfronts can show a clear street and a dark face inside the doorway. We assess changing contrast, not just daytime sharpness. A lens behind glass also risks reflections from indoor lights and infrared. We consider external mounting where permitted instead of promising that settings can remove every optical problem.
Night coverage needs realistic lighting. Colour images require enough light on the subject, while infrared can wash out against nearby surfaces. We discuss lamp direction and the intended viewing distance, keeping neighbouring windows in mind. If a daylight survey cannot establish evening performance, we say what still needs testing rather than claiming it is settled.
Shared routes and residential boundaries
In a block, communal access is not automatically available to an individual occupier's installer. We agree permissions with the relevant owner or agent before fixing equipment to common walls or entering service cupboards. Cable routes must preserve the building's safety arrangements, including appropriate treatment of any penetrations through fire-resisting construction.
We limit residential views to the security purpose and mask neighbouring windows where necessary. Capturing beyond the property boundary introduces data protection responsibilities. For commercial premises, we also discuss signage, staff privacy, authorised access and retention. Equipment features can help, but they do not by themselves make every proposed use lawful.
Playback is part of the repair
When the recorder reports a disk error, we check storage condition and configuration before specifying a compatible replacement. New storage does not restore earlier recordings. If an incident matters, stop experimenting with format menus and tell us what footage you need before we make changes. Preservation and ordinary repair are different objectives.
After work, we create a test event and retrieve it. We check time settings and demonstrate exporting a usable clip. Storage duration depends on capacity and recording settings, so we explain the expected arrangement without inventing a guaranteed history. The handover should leave an authorised user able to find an event independently.
Contact us with access and equipment details
We take enquiries on freephone 0800 206 2385, Mon-Sat 8am-7pm, or WhatsApp 07595 292534. Tell us whether you manage a shop, occupy a flat or represent the building. A photograph of an accessible recorder label helps; reaching a camera at height to read its model does not.
Finchley Aerials brings 25 years' experience and offers same-day service where possible. Explain loading restrictions, security desk arrangements and any limits on when external work can take place. We arrange the free survey or repair visit around those realities, agree the price before authorised work and show you the finished operation rather than leaving a stack of manuals.
