We work across N1, including Georgian squares, Victorian houses and modern apartments around Angel. Our first conversation is about the problem, not a replacement bundle. A free site survey lets us inspect the building and explain your options. Any proposed work comes with a fixed written quote for you to consider.
Begin at the threshold in Upper Street
For an Upper Street premises, a wide street view may leave the doorway tiny. We decide where a person should become recognisable, then work backwards to the lens, angle and mounting height. A close entrance view and a general overview can serve different purposes.
We also ask about opening hours, deliveries and the route staff use after closing. An inward-opening door, display board or shutter can change what a camera sees. We check those positions during the survey rather than discovering an obstruction once the bracket has been fixed. The aim is purposeful coverage, not simply more footage.
A free survey with the building in mind
We inspect accessible cable routes and discuss how visible equipment can be kept proportionate to the facade. Georgian detailing and older masonry deserve care. Where listed status or conservation restrictions may affect the proposal, we flag consent checks before installation is arranged.
The survey includes lighting, blind corners, recorder security and network access. We write down what will be installed, what can stay and any access requirements. There is no obligation after this free visit. If your priority is a broken system, we distinguish the survey from any separately agreed diagnostic or repair work.
Repairs do not depend on who fitted the cameras
We can investigate another firm's installation. Missing channels, repeated recorder restarts and a phone app that never connects are different faults, so we ask what still works. Model photographs let us check likely compatibility before attending.
On site, we follow the fault through power, connectors, cable and recorder inputs. We look for a local cause before declaring the whole system obsolete. If replacement is sensible, we explain why repair would be limited or unsupported. You approve the clear price before chargeable work begins, and serviceable equipment is not discarded just to make everything match.
Separate basement steps from the pavement above
An entrance below street level needs its own viewing test. A camera high on the main facade can see the stairs yet miss a face beneath the overhang. We consider a lower, protected position and check how a person approaches the actual door.
At a converted terrace near Highbury Fields, shared steps also raise questions about ownership and privacy. We agree the area that needs recording, avoid looking into other flats and establish who can view footage. We check with you before attaching cable to communal railings or crossing a neighbour's section of the building.
Make evening pictures useful
Bright shop windows near Angel and a dark doorway in the same frame can confuse automatic exposure. We compare the close view with the wider scene, and choose settings suited to the subject rather than leaving every camera identical.
Colour imaging after sunset needs enough light. Infrared is another option, but a shiny canopy or dirty cover can wash it out. We explain these trade-offs before specifying lighting. Any additional lamp should illuminate the entrance, not neighbouring bedrooms. Where a final darkness check cannot happen during the visit, we agree how the night image will be reviewed.
Recording belongs somewhere secure and maintainable
We avoid placing a recorder where anyone entering the hallway can unplug or take it. Ventilation and future access matter too; a sealed cupboard packed with household storage is not a good equipment location. We agree the practical space before routing cables.
For existing installations, we check drive status, recording mode and date accuracy. We then play back a new sequence from each repaired view. If footage is needed for an incident, mention it immediately. Changing a recorder does not automatically transfer its recordings, and a replacement drive cannot recreate material that was never saved.
Remote viewing without an old installer account
We set up access with the person responsible for the system, using supported ownership transfer or reset procedures where necessary. You control the primary account. Other users receive appropriate permissions rather than a password passed between everyone indefinitely.
We explain secure storage, retention and signage if recording extends beyond your boundary. Privacy masks help exclude neighbouring windows, but camera positioning comes first. We test the app away from local Wi-Fi, demonstrate searching a time range and show how to export a short clip. Good handover means you can repeat those actions yourself.
Speak to us before replacing the lot
Finchley Aerials offers free advice and brings 25 years' experience. Ring 0800 206 2385 free, Mon-Sat 8am-7pm, or send a WhatsApp message to 07595 292534. Tell us whether you manage the building, occupy a flat or run the premises.
We will ask about the recorder, the affected views and access arrangements. Same-day service is possible when the diary and job allow; on-site appointments can continue until sunset. For new coverage or an upgrade, request your free Islington site survey. We will set out the work and quote in writing before you decide.
