Our free site survey covers the practical choices before equipment is ordered. Across N7, from Holloway Road mansion blocks to Victorian terraces towards Tufnell Park, we check entry points, cabling and permission to work. We give you a fixed written quote rather than an unexplained camera package.
Start with the camera that has stopped earning its place
Tell us whether the screen is black, the picture freezes or yesterday's recording cannot be found. Those symptoms send us down different routes. We compare the affected channel with working channels, inspect its supply and test the connection back to the recorder.
We accept repair enquiries even when the installer has disappeared. Having the make and model helps, but you do not need technical knowledge to book. We explain which component has failed and whether a compatible replacement is available. A repair may be sufficient; a complete replacement needs a reason.
Holloway Road needs a doorway view, not a traffic counter
Passing buses and pedestrians can dominate a camera facing straight out from a shop or flat entrance. We look across the threshold instead, choosing a lens that makes a caller useful in the picture. An open entrance door must not block that view.
For premises along Caledonian Road, we separate the public frontage from any private delivery access. Alert zones can exclude much of the passing traffic, although they do not replace sensible camera positioning. We discuss when alerts are useful and when continuous recording gives a better account of events without making your phone a nuisance.
What we cover during your free survey
We ask you to show us the weak point first: an unobserved gate, a damaged camera or a hallway where faces are indistinct. Then we walk the possible cable route and check power, recorder ventilation and access to your broadband equipment.
Our survey is free and carries no obligation to proceed. The written proposal identifies the views, equipment and installation work. Fault-finding that involves chargeable repairs is agreed separately, not hidden inside the survey offer. We explain access limitations before quoting, including whether a ladder position needs a clear courtyard or permission from another occupier.
Mansion blocks and student buildings need an agreed owner
A camera serving a communal entrance is not simply a private camera with a larger field of view. We establish who authorises the installation, who controls recordings and who will answer requests for footage. We need approval for drilling shared walls and running cables through communal space.
In a Holloway conversion, the correct recorder location may not be inside the nearest flat. We consider a secure accessible position under the responsible person's control. We keep escape routes unobstructed and discuss suitable treatment of any building penetrations. Existing shared equipment is identified before we alter connections or disconnect power.
Wet connections and night-time failures
A channel that disappears only after dark can point to power trouble when infrared illumination switches on. We test under those conditions rather than assuming the lens is defective. External joints also get checked for moisture, damaged seals and cable strain.
Brick reveals and nearby drainpipes can reflect infrared straight back into the image. We adjust the mounting position and inspect the cover before recommending extra illumination. Around a narrow terraced entrance, a small change in angle may improve the image more than a higher resolution camera aimed at the same obstruction. Night performance depends on the scene, not just the label.
Check the saved evidence, not only the live screen
We inspect recording schedules, drive condition and the system clock when footage seems missing. A healthy live picture proves a camera is transmitting, but says nothing about how long the recorder has been saving it. We make a fresh test recording and retrieve it.
If an incident matters, tell us before any reset or disk replacement. We explain supported export options and avoid formatting a drive containing material you need. Recovery of lost footage is not something we promise. Storage planning then follows camera count, image settings and the period you reasonably need to retain recordings.
Give authorised users access without exposing everyone else
We help you create controlled phone access and remove unnecessary old users where the equipment allows. For inherited systems, ownership checks come before account recovery. We do not bypass another person's credentials or promise to unlock unsupported hardware.
A pavement in view brings data protection responsibilities. We reduce unnecessary capture, mask neighbouring windows and discuss appropriate signage. Audio normally stays disabled. We demonstrate playback and clip saving on your phone, then try remote access over mobile data. That exposes connection problems a demonstration on the building's own Wi-Fi could miss.
Arrange a Holloway repair visit or survey
Call Finchley Aerials free on 0800 206 2385, Monday to Saturday between 8am and 7pm. You can also WhatsApp equipment photographs to 07595 292534. Include your postcode, the number of affected cameras and whether the recorder still turns on.
We offer same-day attendance where possible, with on-site work continuing until sunset when conditions allow. We bring 25 years' experience and give free advice before booking. For a new installation, the next step is the free site survey; for a fault, we agree the investigation and clear price before work starts.
