We also take on CCTV repairs when the original installer is no longer involved. Missing recordings, an unreliable entrance camera or lost phone access do not automatically require a new system. We inspect the existing installation, establish its limitations and explain the choices before you commit to spending on replacements.
Agree responsibility before working on a shared entrance
NW8 has mansion flats and apartment blocks where an individual resident does not control the external wall or communal hall. We establish who can authorise the work and ask for the necessary managing-agent or freeholder approval. The plan should identify who holds footage, handles requests and arranges maintenance.
For a communal repair, we need access to the recorder, relevant equipment cupboards and affected camera positions. Please tell us about concierge arrangements and booked access windows. We can assess the system more effectively when the person responsible for it can supply model information and any account access they legitimately hold.
Discreet positions still have to produce useful detail
Regency villas near Regent's Park can have substantial frontages, recessed doors and carefully finished elevations. We discuss the visual impact of brackets and cable routes, but a camera hidden so thoroughly that it cannot see the entrance is not a successful compromise. We show you the intended sightline during the free survey.
Where a building is listed or conservation controls affect the proposal, obtain the relevant advice and consent before fixings are installed. We do not assume a small camera is exempt. The quote sets out the proposed equipment and route so you can use a defined plan when seeking any necessary approval.
Repair the fault without discarding a sound installation
A blank image can originate at the camera, its power source, a network port or a connection along the route. We test the affected chain rather than treating a dark screen as proof that the lens unit has failed. Weather-damaged joints and unstable supplies deserve attention before replacement hardware is connected.
For an older recorder, we check supported formats, available inputs and storage health. Existing coaxial cable may remain usable with compatible equipment; a move to network cameras may require different wiring. We explain those distinctions and any unsupported features. Other firms' branding on the recorder does not stop us from assessing a repair.
Separate the gate view from the doorway view
A broad camera overlooking an entrance path can show how someone approaches without recording a clear face at the bell. We work backwards from the detail you need. At a recessed doorway, that may mean a dedicated closer view instead of pushing a high-mounted camera to cover an entire frontage.
Around Abbey Road and Lord's Cricket Ground, a camera facing outwards may include considerable public activity. We limit the frame to the relevant access route and tune supported alert zones. Traffic and pedestrians outside your premises should not become the main subject simply because the camera can see them.
Protect finishes and keep maintenance possible
We agree how cabling will reach each camera before work begins. Existing service routes can sometimes help, but we inspect what is accessible rather than promising invisible wiring everywhere. External runs need secure fixing and protected connections. Indoors, the recorder needs ventilation, reliable power and a position that is not open to casual interference.
Wired PoE installations provide power and data through suitable network cable and record locally without relying on a camera battery. We explain any network equipment needed between cameras and recorder. Access for future testing matters too: burying every connection behind a permanent finish may look tidy but make a later fault unnecessarily disruptive.
Low light, glass and polished surfaces need care
An entrance lobby with glazing can reflect a camera's infrared illumination, particularly if someone tries to film through the glass. We assess reflections and the light reaching visitors, not just the brightness of the lobby itself. Outdoor placement may give a more usable view, subject to the agreed permissions and route.
Colour night images need adequate illumination. We explain when infrared monochrome is preferable and whether an existing entrance light can assist. Lighting should not intrude into adjacent flats. For an installation handed over in daylight, we discuss the expected night performance and how any later adjustment will be arranged.
Control access to recordings, not just the cameras
Before changing a recorder or disk, we ask whether there is footage you must retain. We demonstrate a search and supported export, check the system clock and review recording schedules. Storage capacity and settings determine retention; we do not promise an arbitrary number of days without assessing the actual configuration.
We review account permissions where supported and test remote access over a mobile connection. For shared buildings, access should follow an agreed policy rather than a widely circulated password. We minimise capture of neighbours, discuss masking and signage, and normally leave audio inactive. Installation guidance is not a substitute for legal advice on data protection responsibilities.

Call our free number, 0800 206 2385, with your NW8 postcode and the type of building. We answer Mon-Sat, 8am-7pm, and offer same-day appointments when possible. On-site work runs until sunset. WhatsApp photographs of equipment labels can go to 07595 292534, but please never send passwords.
We bring 25 years' experience as Finchley Aerials and Satellites, based on Britannia Road in Finchley N12 9RU. Advice and CCTV site surveys are free. Any chargeable diagnostics are agreed separately, and the installation or repair receives a clear price before work starts. Tell us about access restrictions when arranging the visit.
