Georgian rooms, Victorian conversions and Arts and Crafts houses do not all accept the same installation method. Around Hampstead Village, Parliament Hill and the Heath, we assess the individual room rather than assuming a period wall is solid throughout. You receive a considered mounting plan and an agreed written scope.
Establish what can be altered
Tell us whether the property is listed, rented or subject to particular building restrictions. Internal alterations to a listed building can require consent where they affect its special interest. Conservation-area location alone does not settle every permission question. We flag the proposed fixings and cable work so you can obtain appropriate advice or approval.
We do not assume that a hidden installation is harmless simply because the screen covers it. Chasing, drilling and removing original material all need consideration. Where the agreed permissions rule out a particular route, we discuss a less intrusive alternative instead of proceeding and leaving you to resolve it later.
Choose comfort over the obvious focal point
A handsome fireplace can draw the eye without being the right place for a screen. We mark a proposed position and ask you to judge it from the sofa. The mantel height, viewing distance and reflected daylight all matter, especially where a room has tall windows and more than one seating group.
Where a working fire is involved, we check heat exposure and the equipment manufacturers' requirements. We also consider the flue before any fixing or concealed route is agreed. A nearby alcove may offer a better viewing height, but its width and bracket movement still need checking against the television itself.

Older plaster can conceal a different structure
We inspect the mounting zone to establish suitable support behind the surface. Lath and plaster, masonry with a lining and later partitions require different approaches. We check for services and assess fixing positions in relation to the bracket, rather than trusting the sound of a tap on the wall.
The installation must suit the television's load and mounting pattern. Extending arms increase the forces on their supports when pulled forwards. If strengthening or preparatory repairs are needed, we explain what must happen before fitting, including responsibility for reinstatement. We will recommend another position where the proposed support is unsuitable.
Discreet cabling does not have to mean chasing
We look for a practical route between the screen and your equipment, considering accessible voids, furniture and carefully positioned surface cable management. An existing route can be useful only if its condition and capacity suit the new leads. We do not promise invisible cabling from a photograph alone.
Where wall chasing is appropriate and authorised, we identify the resulting making-good and decoration in the quote. Connections need future access. Electrical alterations belong with a suitable electrician, and mains and signal cabling need appropriate arrangements. Hiding a power strip inside a closed wall is not our solution to visible wires.
A screen recess needs accurate specifications
If your renovation includes a media wall or fitted cabinet, send us the drawings before construction closes the space. We need the actual television model, bracket dimensions and any soundbar requirements. A recess must allow ventilation, connector clearance and a way to release the screen for maintenance.
We coordinate the mounting position and backing with your builder within the agreed scope. Receiver boxes and consoles also need ventilation and a usable control arrangement. An electric fire introduces its own installation requirements; a visually balanced drawing does not prove that the proposed separation from the television is sufficient.

Plan access through the building
Some Hampstead properties have narrow stair turns or rooms reached through furnished hallways. Tell us the screen dimensions and where it is stored. We discuss safe handling and working space before the visit, including any parking or delivery restrictions that affect getting equipment to the property.
For converted flats, establish permission for the intended wall and any shared areas affected by the work. We agree how furniture and floors will be protected and where drilling can take place. Keeping the job organised helps avoid unnecessary movement of a fragile screen through tight access routes.
Check the whole viewing arrangement
After securing and aligning the TV, we test its connected sources. For an adjustable bracket, we check the cable slack and clearances at the positions you will use. We connect compatible sound equipment, review audio settings and try the everyday remote controls with you.
We explain how the mount locks and what is involved in reaching rear connections later. Any remaining decorating is identified rather than left ambiguous. If an incoming aerial feed has an existing fault, that requires its own diagnosis; the screen being newly mounted does not change the signal entering the room.
