We cover N20 with a free survey, a screen position agreed from where you actually sit and a fixed written quote before work begins.
Large rooms need careful screen sizing
A big Totteridge reception room can swallow a modest television, but the biggest panel is not always the best answer. We consider seating distance, window light and how many people watch at once. We then check that the wall can carry the chosen model.
Some rooms have two seating areas, so one fixed position may not suit both. A swivel arm can help, provided the wall construction supports the extra leverage. We explain the limits honestly. Before settling on a height, we mark the screen outline and compare views from your usual chairs. A position intended for occasional standing use in a kitchen should not dictate the main sofa view.
Detached houses: solid walls, extensions and cavity details
Large detached homes often combine original masonry with later extensions, loft conversions and plasterboard partitions. We check each fixing location, because the wall behind one end of a room may differ from the other. Cavity or insulated walls can also need specific fixings.
Underfloor heating pipes and concealed wiring may be present in newer extensions. If there is any doubt, we pause and investigate before drilling. Ask your builder for plans if you have them. We match the anchors to sound structural material rather than relying on the plaster finish. If reinforcement is required, we describe the preparation and who will make good the surface.
Long cable runs to a hidden equipment cupboard
A television at one end of a large room and the equipment in a cupboard at the other need careful cabling. HDMI over long distances can fail if the lead is wrongly specified, so we choose the cable for the picture formats you want.
We plan routes before the screen goes up, including access for replacement. Mains power is handled separately by a qualified electrician where needed. We do not conceal ordinary extension leads in walls.
High Road flats and mansion blocks
Flats along Whetstone High Road may have thinner partitions and shared-building rules. We locate the framing and check whether backing is needed. Tenants and leaseholders should confirm what drilling is allowed.
We look at access, parking and lift arrangements before the visit. A large boxed screen has to reach the flat safely, so tell us if the route involves stairs or restricted unloading.
Media rooms and built-in joinery
Some larger homes include built-in joinery or a dedicated media room. We need the TV and soundbar dimensions before the carpenter finishes, because ventilation, cable access and clearances are hard to fix afterwards.
We can work with your builder on backing and recesses. Speaker positions and remote control reach also matter, particularly when equipment sits behind closed doors. An electric fire in the same assembly adds heat restrictions: both appliance instructions must be respected. We check ventilation around the television rather than enclosing it tightly for appearance alone.
Soundbars and AV equipment
A large screen deserves decent sound. We mount the soundbar so it does not block the screen or sensors and connect it by ARC or eARC where supported. We then test volume control, dialogue and any subwoofer.
We also check streaming boxes, consoles and recorders. If your system has more than one source, we make sure input switching is simple enough for everyone in the house. At completion we inspect the bracket locks, level the panel and check that leads stay clear through any movement. We demonstrate the adjustment controls and explain access for servicing, then clear our working area.
Signal strength at the edge of coverage
Whetstone sits at the northern edge of good Crystal Palace coverage, so large houses can need a well-designed aerial installation. A new wall mount will not fix a weak signal.
If channels break up when you set up the new screen, we can look at your aerial separately. Our aerial repair service uses measured readings to find the cause.
