The 1920s and 1930s semis around Kingsbury give us different camera positions from the terraces off the main road. We look at access, light and the distance to the entrance, then explain what a recording will realistically show. You get a written specification rather than promises based on a camera's resolution alone.
Walk the boundaries before choosing equipment
During your free survey we ask where people enter, where vehicles stand and which doors are used after dark. Near Roe Green Park, planting and deep front gardens can interrupt an otherwise sensible view. We check the actual sightline at camera height, including what happens when the drive is occupied.
We mark out proposed positions and discuss whether an overview or closer identification view matters most. The recorder location, available power and route through the house form part of that assessment. Our quote describes the agreed work; any separate paid fault diagnosis is explained before you authorise it.
One dead camera does not condemn the system
If three channels work and one is black, we investigate that channel's supply, connector and cable before suggesting a replacement recorder. If every view disappears together, a shared power fault may be involved. Let us know whether the problem follows rain, darkness or a recent change indoors.
We work on other installers' CCTV without insisting on a complete refit. Older coaxial systems need compatibility checks because cameras and recorders do not all use the same video format. Where the wiring remains sound, retaining it can avoid unnecessary disturbance to decorated rooms. We explain any limitations of the repair.
A useful driveway image has a defined purpose
For a semi with a side garage, we may separate the approach view from the passage beside the house. Trying to stretch one wide image across both often leaves a person too small to recognise. We discuss lens choice and height with that in mind, rather than simply mounting everything under the highest eaves.
Along Kingsbury Road, passing vehicles can dominate motion alerts. We set detection areas around the part of the property that matters, where the camera supports this. A number plate is a separate imaging task: glare, speed and angle can defeat a general-purpose camera, so we never promise plate recognition from a broad driveway view.
Get outside connections out of the weather
Exposed joints and cables caught behind a gate are weak points worth addressing even if the picture currently works. We inspect accessible connections for water damage, check fixings and plan protected entry points. A new camera on an unreliable cable can leave you with precisely the same intermittent fault.
For new wired network systems, power and video can travel along one suitable Ethernet cable. We agree the visible runs before drilling and avoid leaving loose lengths at paths or doors. At a terraced property, reaching the rear may need an internal route; we discuss access and disruption before including that work.
Check the dark corner as carefully as the bright entrance
Homes towards Fryent Country Park can have shaded boundaries while the porch is brightly lit. We assess each scene separately. Infrared illumination can produce a useful monochrome view, but nearby walls and overhanging plants may bounce light into the lens and obscure the subject.
Colour footage at night requires sufficient illumination. We explain whether existing lighting is suitable or an additional light needs consideration. Pointing a bright lamp towards adjoining bedrooms is not a sensible solution. Dirt and spider webs can also spoil infrared pictures, so we show you which accessible surfaces need gentle cleaning.

Prove that yesterday's pictures are actually there
A live image is only half the test. We check the recorder clock, recording schedule and storage condition, then retrieve an event. If you need footage retained before repairs, tell us at booking. We will discuss export options before any drive replacement or reset; recovery from failed storage cannot be guaranteed.
We demonstrate playback and clip saving on supported equipment. Phone viewing is tested using mobile data so it is not merely working inside your Wi-Fi coverage. Local recording can continue through a broadband failure on a correctly configured wired system, provided its power remains available; access from outside will still depend on the connection.
Limit the view and control who can watch
We aim at your entrances rather than neighbouring gardens. Privacy masks can exclude unnecessary areas on suitable cameras, and we normally disable audio. Filming outside your boundary can bring data protection duties, including handling access requests and considering signage. We explain the practical issues without claiming to provide legal advice.
For rented homes or shared entrances, establish permission for the proposed fixings before installation. We also ask who should hold the main account and whether an old installer still has access. Changing supported passwords and reviewing users is part of making the system yours, not just putting a picture on a screen.
