We cover Freeview tuning, missing HD channels and Freeview Play setup around NW9, from the semis near Roe Green Park to the terraces along Kingsbury Road. The call is free, the advice is free and you get a clear price before work starts.
What a 1930s semi usually has on the roof
A typical Kingsbury semi has a lashed bracket on the chimney stack, a length of coax running down the rear wall and a socket in the front room. Often a second cable was added later for a bedroom, with a splitter hidden in the loft or under the stairs. Each of those parts can degrade without any dramatic failure.
We trace the feed from the socket backwards, noting what is actually connected. It is common to find redundant splitters or an abandoned satellite cable still sharing the route. Removing needless joints often restores a cleaner signal without touching the aerial.
Why a new TV can show fewer channels than the old one
A newer television is more sensitive to marginal signal quality in some cases and less so in others. Digital reception either decodes or it does not, so an aerial that was borderline for years can finally tip into breakup. The screen may also be pointed at the wrong input or tuned to a different region.
We check the input, the tuning region and the receiver's capability first, then measure the signal at the socket. If the readings show weak quality on one multiplex, we move up the chain to the roof. The aim is a specific cause, not a general upgrade.
Crystal Palace reception across NW9
Kingsbury sits within good Crystal Palace coverage, so most correctly installed aerials here should deliver the full Freeview line-up. A weak result usually points at the installation rather than the location. Aerial type, direction, cable condition and the number of rooms served all play a part.
We read level and quality together, because strength alone can mislead. If a different transmitter has been selected, we explain what the channel difference means before changing anything. Our transmitter guide gives the background if you want to read before we visit.
Trees by Fryent Country Park
Streets towards Fryent Country Park have mature trees that behave differently in summer and winter. A picture that is clean in February can break up in June once the leaves are full. When someone tells us the problem is seasonal, we look for foliage near the line between aerial and transmitter.
Fixing that may mean a better aerial, a higher mounting point or simply cutting back a branch that you own. We will not recommend pruning a neighbour's tree. We explain what we see, measure with and without the obstruction where possible and let you decide.
Retuning without wiping a working list
Pressing auto-tune on a failing signal usually leaves a shorter list than before. If you notice channels have gone, stop, note which ones and call us. We confirm the feed is stable at the socket and then run the scan.
After the scan we tidy duplicate regional versions, confirm the guide matches the channel numbers and check the HD services respond. If the tuner supports manual tuning and the reception calls for it, we use that to pull in a missing multiplex.
Rooms with their own television
Many Kingsbury families have a set in the lounge, one upstairs and perhaps a small one in the kitchen. Splitting a modest aerial signal three or four ways reduces what reaches each room. We measure each outlet and decide whether a better aerial or a carefully chosen amplifier is justified.
Where a loft amplifier already exists, we check its power supply and whether it is overdriving the signal. An amplifier fitted years ago for a different house layout may now do more harm than good.
Freeview Play and smart features
Catch-up apps run over your broadband, not through the aerial, so a clear picture on live channels does not guarantee a working iPlayer. We connect compatible televisions to your current router, test a supported app and show you how the guide handles live and on-demand programmes.
If your router sits at the far end of the house, we say so and suggest a wired or better-positioned connection. You type any passwords yourself.
