The mix of Stonegrove semis, bungalows towards Canons Park and apartments around Edgware Broadway changes how we approach the wiring. We trace the feed that actually serves your room. You get an explanation of the fault and an agreed price before we undertake repairs.
An older set may explain the HD gap
Start with the model number, not the age of the rooftop aerial. Freeview HD reception requires a DVB-T2 tuner; an HD-ready label describes the screen and does not prove it has that tuner. We check the specification and the available broadcasts before recommending any equipment. A compatible external receiver may let you retain a perfectly usable display.
Conversely, a modern television cannot recover a broadcast that never reaches its socket cleanly. We measure the HD broadcast group and compare it with the other multiplexes. That separates a receiver limitation from a cable or reception problem, so money goes towards the part that needs attention.
Keep the channels you have while we investigate
If several programmes vanish together, note their names before starting another scan. Channels are carried in groups, and the missing group gives us useful evidence. We check reported transmitter disruption as well as your installation. Retuning an absent feed can remove stored channels without improving reception at all.
We begin with accessible connections: the television input, aerial flylead and wall plate. A loose centre conductor can make a whole installation appear unreliable. Once a sound feed is established, we tune the receiver and inspect the results, including regional selection and duplicate entries where the television has stored more than one source.
Stonegrove houses: trace the split before adding gain
An inter-war semi may have a lounge outlet, a bedroom extension and an old lead disappearing into the loft. We identify which connections remain active and compare readings along the route. A splitter installed for a former room layout may be wasting signal or hiding an unprotected connection.
Amplification is useful when measured distribution losses justify it, not as a routine cure for every frozen picture. We check the power supply and output levels of existing amplifiers. Too much level can overload receiving equipment. Keeping a sound aerial and correcting the distribution can be more appropriate than adding another powered box.
Bungalow reception deserves its own roof assessment
Towards Canons Park, a bungalow's lower mounting height can put neighbouring roofs or trees into the reception path. We test useful positions rather than assuming a taller pole is the answer. If outdoor work is proposed, we inspect the support, discuss safe access and agree the visible cable route first.
Crystal Palace is an important reception option here. Where another source merits testing, we explain its actual programme selection; the Alexandra Palace relay does not carry the full Crystal Palace multiplex range. A different alignment must deliver the channels you want, not merely a stronger reading on one frequency.
Broadway apartments and the shared-feed boundary
In an apartment, the socket may connect to a communal distribution system rather than equipment under your control. Tell us whether neighbours have lost the same services. We can test the accessible feed in your flat, but changing a shared amplifier or entering a locked roof space requires the appropriate building permission.
We distinguish the terrestrial outlet from satellite connections and check any receiver loop-through cables. When the measurements point outside the flat, we explain the evidence and the access needed for further work. We do not fit a private booster simply to disguise a problem that belongs to the building's shared installation.
A working aerial will not reconnect catch-up
Freeview Play combines aerial-delivered television with supported internet features. If live programmes look normal but catch-up refuses to load, we examine the television's network connection separately. A changed router name, weak Wi-Fi at the set or unsupported software needs a different response from an aerial repair.
We check available updates and supported apps, then demonstrate playback where the device and broadband allow it. You enter account passwords yourself. For recorders, we also verify the aerial connections, guide and recording controls, explaining the model's limits rather than promising every combination of simultaneous viewing and recording.
Leave with a usable guide, not just a signal reading
After the agreed work, we check services across the available broadcast groups and show you the channel list. Where more than one room is included, we test each agreed outlet. We explain what was repaired, what equipment remains and any limits imposed by the receiver or transmitter.
Call 0800 206 2385 free or WhatsApp 07595 292534 with your postcode and TV model. We answer Mon-Sat, 8am-7pm; same-day visits depend on availability, and outdoor work continues only until sunset.
