You do not need to know who fitted your cameras before calling us. We work on other companies' installations, checking whether a missing picture means a faulty supply, damaged connection or failed camera. Our recommendation starts with what can sensibly stay, not a shopping list of replacements.
Get the existing recorder talking first
If every channel disappears together, we investigate the common equipment before climbing to individual cameras. We check the recorder, power distribution and display connection. When only one view fails, we trace that channel and compare compatible components. Tell us about beeping, error messages or any changes made before the problem began.
We treat saved footage separately from the repair. If an incident matters, tell us before we restart equipment or change storage settings. A drive that appears faulty should not be formatted casually. We explain what we can test and avoid promising that damaged recordings will always be recoverable.
Surveying terraces, estates and Tottenham Hale flats
Our free survey follows the way people enter your property. Victorian terraces around Bruce Castle need different cable planning from apartment buildings at Tottenham Hale. We look at front steps, rear access, shared doors and the indoor space available for recording equipment. We also ask which areas you are authorised to alter.
For an estate or managed block, access to communal cupboards and external walls needs arranging beforehand. We can describe the proposed work for the responsible person to consider. The survey produces a specification and written quotation; any separate chargeable investigation is explained for approval rather than hidden inside a supposedly free visit.
Busy frontage, useful evidence
Near Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, activity outside a building can change considerably when an event is taking place. We discuss whether your priority is a visitor at the bell, a shop doorway or access to a private forecourt. Motion alerts should reflect that purpose instead of responding to everyone walking past.
We choose the lens and angle together. A broad overview can show direction of travel, while a tighter entrance view gives a face more space in the picture. We check the proposed height from the visitor's approach, and consider parked vehicles, opening doors and signs that might obscure the useful part of the frame.
Cables that do not get in the way
A converted terrace may have several households using the same hall. We agree routes that avoid trailing leads, obstructed doors or loose wiring along stair edges. Before drilling, we identify suitable fixing surfaces and explain where the cable enters. Connections outdoors need protection from rain as well as a tidy finish.
Existing coaxial runs may remain useful if their condition and signal format suit the replacement equipment. We test that rather than assuming an older installation is scrap. For new wired network cameras, we plan Ethernet routes and power provision together, keeping maintenance access possible without taking apart someone else's living space.
Rear passages need their own night assessment
Street lighting at the front does not tell us how a rear gate looks after dark. We inspect the likely light at the target and explain the difference between infrared images and colour footage. Colour needs adequate illumination; adding resolution alone will not brighten an unlit passage or remove motion blur.
We also watch for nearby walls reflecting infrared into the lens. Dirt, cobwebs and reflective surfaces can make a functioning camera look defective at night. Adjusting its position or cleaning its cover may be more sensible than replacement. Any additional lighting should serve your entrance without shining unnecessarily into adjoining homes.
Playback is part of the repair
A live image is only one test. We check that the recorder saves footage, that its clock makes sense and that you can find a particular event. Storage duration depends on the drive, recording mode and camera settings. We explain the likely retention for your configuration without inventing a guaranteed number of days.
At handover we practise retrieving and exporting a clip with you. Remote access gets a separate check using mobile data, because an app working on home Wi-Fi does not prove it works away from the property. We review user permissions and avoid leaving unnecessary accounts with access to your recordings.
Shared entrances are not private gardens
When a camera watches a communal entrance, we establish who is responsible for it and who may view footage. Permission to occupy one flat is not automatically permission to fix equipment to the outside wall. We ask for the relevant landlord or management approval before carrying out alterations to shared parts.
We minimise capture beyond your boundary and use privacy masks where supported. Recording public space or neighbouring property can bring data protection obligations. We discuss purpose, signage, secure storage and proportionate retention, with audio normally disabled. Our practical advice does not replace legal advice about your particular responsibilities.
Tell us what your N17 system is doing
Call free on 0800 206 2385 or send WhatsApp details to 07595 292534. A recorder model, postcode and description of the fault help us prepare; please keep passwords out of messages. We take enquiries Mon-Sat, 8am-7pm, with on-site work continuing until sunset and same-day help where possible.
Finchley Aerials and Satellites is based at Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU. We bring 25 years' experience, offer free advice and arrange a free CCTV site survey. Whether you need repairs or a new layout, we give you a clear price before work starts and leave the decision with you.
