Our installation work covers West End Lane, Fortune Green and the neighbourhood around West Hampstead Thameslink. Reception is generally good here. The challenge is often carrying it properly through an older building, with permission for shared spaces and an agreed route that does not spoil the rooms.
Map the existing system, not just the visible aerial
A rooftop crowded with old aerials tells us little about which one feeds your flat. We trace accessible wiring and compare readings at the incoming feed and room socket. Disconnected cables, redundant splitters and older amplifiers need identifying before we decide what a replacement installation should include.
Mansion blocks may have a serviceable aerial but distribution equipment that does not pass every required broadcast group properly. We test that possibility rather than assume missing HD services demand new roof equipment. If repair is the sensible route, we describe it separately so you can compare it with the proposed installation.

Make one clear agreement for a shared roof
For converted houses, we ask who owns the external wall and roof and who can authorise work there. Access through another resident's loft cannot simply be assumed. We help define the proposed equipment position and cable path so the freeholder or managing agent can consider a specific arrangement.
We also establish the boundary of our work: one private feed, several agreed flats or part of a wider communal installation. That prevents confusion about whose outlets are included. Where protected status or conservation controls apply, you need the relevant approvals before external alterations proceed, even if an old aerial already exists.
Choose a reception position with room for variation
We usually assess Crystal Palace first, comparing signal quality at suitable mounting points. Nearby roofs, trees and taller buildings can change the result over a short distance. The best position is the one that delivers dependable reception and can be supported safely, not necessarily the highest place on the building.
We check the separate multiplexes rather than one favourite channel. Where another transmitter is considered, its service selection is part of the discussion. Alexandra Palace is a relay with fewer channels, so it is not an interchangeable substitute. Our recommendation explains the practical effect of the reception choice before installation.
A loft option has to pass the same reception checks
Keeping an aerial indoors can suit a house where the loft is accessible and the roof materials allow reception. We measure the intended location, including the effect of tanks, insulation and metalwork. An aerial held near the hatch does not prove that a position behind the water tank will work.
If outdoor mounting is required, we inspect the proposed support and choose the bracket and mast accordingly. Old brickwork needs care, and a chimney is not a convenient fixing merely because it is there. We explain any access equipment or preparatory work needed rather than arrive expecting an unsafe ladder arrangement.
Route new cable around the way you use the flat
A screen in the rear reception room may need a different cable approach from the original front-room socket. We discuss furniture, doorway crossings and finishes before agreeing the outlet. Existing service routes can be useful, but we do not force cable through unknown voids or leave it loose across shared circulation space.
We fit screened coax, secure external lengths and protect entry holes from weather. Sound existing cable may stay after testing. For more than one television, the design accounts for split losses and branch lengths, with any powered equipment left accessible. You should not have to dismantle joinery just to reach a television distribution supply.

Finish with the picture, not with the last fixing
Once the physical installation is complete, we test all included sockets and check reception on the televisions present. We tune after establishing a clean feed and verify the expected services. If HD channels are absent, we check receiver support rather than blame a new aerial without evidence.
Mobile interference and excessive amplification are also considered where the measurements point that way. A filter belongs ahead of equipment being overloaded, not wherever it is easiest to reach. We explain any power supply that must stay on and identify retained components, giving you a practical understanding of the completed arrangement.
Book with the access details to hand
Tell us your floor, whether there is a shared system, and how roof or loft access is controlled. Parking and unloading arrangements around West End Lane are useful to know in advance. We provide a fixed written quote once the work is defined, with no specific equipment commitment based solely on a telephone description.
For free advice, phone 0800 206 2385 or WhatsApp 07595 292534. Finchley Aerials and Satellites operates from Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU, bringing 25 years' experience.
