We assess your NW6 property rather than assuming a top-floor address guarantees good reception. A parapet, neighbouring roof or tree near Fortune Green can obstruct the dish. Our job is to explain the mounting choices, protect the building and bring the connection indoors without leaving you with an awkward cable compromise.
Start with who controls the exterior
For a mansion flat, we ask about the lease, managing agent and roof-access procedure before specifying a mount. The outside of your wall may be shared property even when the room behind it belongs to you. Written approval needs to cover the position, fixing method and cable route, not merely permission to have broadband.
Converted houses can have less formal arrangements, but the same questions still matter. We do not assume a neighbour's installation authorises yours. Where planning controls or protected building status apply, we flag the checks needed before alterations. A discreet location is useful only when it also offers the sky clearance the equipment requires.
Compare the sky above each possible mounting point
Starlink exchanges data with moving satellites, so it cannot make do with the narrow sightline used by a conventional fixed satellite dish. We examine candidate positions using the Starlink app and look at roofs, branches and higher neighbouring walls. An apparently open view straight ahead can conceal a substantial obstruction overhead.
Near West End Lane, close rooflines may limit a low wall position. Around Fortune Green, seasonal foliage deserves attention as well as the building itself. We explain the remaining risks instead of promising that extra pole height will solve everything. If no sensible position emerges, that is information you need before paying for permanent mounting.
Choose hardware for the structure, not the photograph
Send us the model of your kit, because its adapter and mounting requirements determine what we can specify. We inspect the proposed supporting surface, wind exposure and bracket stand-off together. Decorative brickwork, tired chimney mortar and thin fascia boards are not interchangeable with sound structural masonry.
An existing pole can look convenient from ground level while concealing corrosion or inadequate fixings. We assess it before discussing reuse. Longer poles impose greater leverage, so we do not simply add height until the dish clears the parapet. If roof access requires specialist equipment, we include that requirement in the proposal rather than improvising on arrival.

Keep the route through the building deliberate
We agree the indoor equipment location and cable path as one design. A top-floor conversion might allow a short external drop, while a lower flat may need a carefully approved longer run. We check cable compatibility and length limits for the particular Starlink kit before making promises about where it can terminate.
We protect the connectors, avoid sharp bends and secure external sections neatly. Entry points need appropriate weather sealing, and any work affecting fire separation must respect the building's requirements. We do not trail cable through a communal doorway or borrow another flat's route without consent. Visible runs are discussed with you before drilling starts.
Give the router a useful place in the flat
A successful roof connection can still produce disappointing Wi-Fi if the router is hidden behind furniture at the far end of a long flat. We ask where you work, stream and make calls. Thick internal walls and split-level conversions can separate rooms that look close together on a floor plan.
We consider compatible mesh equipment or wired connections where the layout warrants them. Hardware ports and adapters vary with the Starlink generation, so we check before specifying additions. We also separate this work from the satellite link: replacing your internet provider is not, by itself, a cure for an indoor wireless dead spot.
Coordinate keys, loading and a safe working window
Tell us about caretaker availability, locked roof hatches and any restrictions on equipment deliveries. Around West Hampstead Thameslink and busy West End Lane, useful loading access may need planning. We ask for practical details rather than expecting you to reserve a space you cannot control or move equipment across an unsafe route.
Ground-level pictures of the frontage and roofline help with preparation. Please leave ladders and roof inspections to us. On the day, weather and the condition of the access route still govern outdoor work. A booked appointment does not justify handling roof equipment in unsafe wind or working over people without proper precautions.
Understand what the handover can demonstrate
We inspect the completed fixings and cable support, check the external entry, and confirm that your kit connects under your own account. We show you the app status and explain how to review obstruction information as it accumulates. Some useful reports are not available immediately after the first startup.
We test the agreed indoor connection points and discuss any remaining coverage limitations. Performance depends on your subscription, demand and conditions, so a quick test is not a speed guarantee. You retain control of billing and account access. We explain the work completed and what the installation guarantee covers before leaving.

Call our free number, 0800 206 2385, or WhatsApp 07595 292534 with your postcode, kit model and property type. Advice is free. Our enquiry hours are Mon-Sat 8am-7pm; outdoor appointments can run until sunset. We offer same-day help where feasible, subject to access and the work required.
Finchley Aerials and Satellites operates from Britannia Road, Finchley N12 9RU, bringing 25 years' experience to mounting and cable planning. We provide a fixed written quote describing the agreed installation. Your Starlink subscription remains separate, and we explain any additional access or network work before you authorise it.
