We install Starlink across EN5, from High Barnet and Hadley Wood to the dips around New Barnet. Expect an honest obstruction check, a mount chosen for your building and a neat cable route. You get a fixed written quote, with a clear price before work starts.
Why a ridge helps, and where it stops helping
Elevation is useful because it can lift a terminal above clutter. It does not remove branches, chimney stacks or a neighbouring gable. We use the Starlink app's obstruction scan from the proposed position, and we repeat it at alternatives when the first reading shows interference.
Barnet's larger gardens add a seasonal variable. A tree that looks thin in winter can close the view once it is in leaf, so we pay attention to species, growth and who owns the tree. If the best position depends on regular pruning, we tell you rather than hiding that dependency.
Victorian villas, inter-war semis and the roof between
On a Victorian villa, the high ridge, tall chimney and steep slates all affect where a mount can safely go. Inter-war semis usually offer a simpler gable or rear wall, but the brickwork and eaves still need inspection. We select hardware for the surface, not the other way round.
Where an old aerial pole is present, we examine the fixings and loading before reusing anything. A Starlink on a long pole behaves like a sail in a gust, so the bracket and masonry beneath it matter. We would rather add a lower, sturdier mount than stretch an unsuitable support.
New developments and shared roofs
Newer apartment schemes in and around Barnet often have managed roof areas, restricted drilling and rules about visible equipment. Before planning any external fixing, we ask who controls the roof or balcony and whether permission is required from the management company.
A cable crossing a shared corridor can break fire-stopping arrangements, so we do not improvise a route. If your lease prevents external equipment, we can talk through realistic alternatives rather than pressing ahead. The practical answer depends on the building and your agreement with its owner.
Hadley Wood and the leafier edges
Around Hadley Wood the larger plots can provide room for a ground pole or outbuilding mount, which may reach clearer sky than the house roof. That option brings its own questions: trenching, cable protection, power at the building and how far the signal cable can run for your kit.
We check the full run before recommending a garden position. Burying an unsuitable cable or leaving a long exposed lead across a lawn is a poor fix. Where outbuilding power is needed, we discuss what falls within our work and what requires a separate qualified electrician.
Getting the cable inside without damage
We draw the whole route in our heads before touching a drill: terminal, support points, wall entry, router position and power socket. Starlink's cable and connector need gentle bends and secure but not crushing fixings. A drip loop and sealed entry stop water tracking along the cable into the wall.
Standard satellite or TV coax will not do this job. If you are tempted to use a cable already fixed to a former dish, let us check its type and condition first. We also tell you where visible cable will run, and agree whether a less obvious route is worth the extra work.
Wi-Fi in a big house is its own problem
Many Barnet homes have been extended outwards and upwards, so the router can end up a long way from the rooms that matter. A strong satellite connection will not fix a loft office behind several thick walls. We place the router where it can serve the house sensibly, not simply where the cable arrived.
For larger layouts, we can discuss mesh Wi-Fi or a wired link between floors. Each mesh unit needs a decent connection to the previous one. A box placed inside the weak area usually repeats the weakness. We note these options in the quote so the extra work is clear.
A typical job here, from first call to handover
A typical job here: a four-bedroom inter-war semi with tall trees at the back. We scan from the rear wall and the side of the roof, compare readings and choose the position with fewer obstructions. We then agree cable entry, install the mount and connect through your account.
Before leaving, we check bracket tightness, cable support and entry sealing, show you the app's obstruction information and explain what is covered in our work. We do not promise speeds, because the service plan, network demand and conditions are outside our control.
